We are now a little over a month into the new school year and I wanted to share a prayer I wrote a few years ago. The prayer is a prayer for their struggles. As a mom, seeing our child struggle can be heartbreaking. I remember my mom often saying one of the hardest parts of being a parent is watching your child struggle and how painful it can be on a mother’s heart. But she also shared that watching them face their struggle and use their challenges to do good is one of the most rewarding parts of parenthood.
So here is to all the parents who have a child who is struggling. May these words give you peace, comfort, strength, and the wisdom to continue your job as a parent. Remember, our job is not to take away their struggle, but instead learn how to use the lessons they learned in their struggle, to do good in this world.
A prayer for their struggle:
“Thank you for this gift of this child __________ you have given me, as we enter a new school year I pray that the struggles will not define him/her, but strengthen ____________.
That __________ knows the struggles are not a symbol of all he/she cannot do … but a window to see all he/she is capable of.
I ask that his/her struggles are not to be seen as an obstacle, but instead an opportunity to:
- grow stronger
- be grateful for all that she has
- be humbled and know, ultimately we are not in control
